Larry Miller (10 Things I Hate About You) - 4/9/99 - 6:30PM PT
WB Host says: Hello! And welcome to Cybertalk! Tonight we are please to welcome Larry Miller from 10 Things I Hate About You! Lets get right to it! Welcome Larry!

LarryMiller says: Hello! I hope you enjoy chatting!

guest182 asks: You've done sitcoms, dramas and movies... can you explain a little about the different challenges of each and which you prefer?

LarryMiller says: Well, gee! I love every job I've had. In the early days, I thought I'd like to be a writer or a comic or an actor and I have loved all of those things. I love them all very much. And, in the acting world and in the writing world, frankly, trying to make people laugh is as fulfilling to me as any dramatic part in theater or movies I've ever had. Drama, of course, is less-desirable in stand-up.

WB Host says: Does it ever bother you that many people know you as "that one guy" kind of like Bill Pullman used to be known. Are you looking for the break-out role that will finally make you a household name?

LarryMiller says: Well, frankly... I don't know in my life that there will be one jump 10 levels up. I guess I'm content moving up above the grade I've always been. I've done 30 movies and a bunch of TV. I just hope to keep moving along. I think 10 things is another good step in that direction. Sure, I hope that I have more access larger and better parts and comedy and drama. I've always seen it as putting bricks in the wall, then someone comes by and asks "Hey where'd that wall come from?"

WB Host says: Are you going to camp out for Star Wars or do you have premiere tickets?

LarryMiller says: Please remember that you're talking to someone with kids who is desperately looking forward to putting together one decent net. I have a feeling I'll see the new Star Wars the way I see most movies including my own - on the road, in the hotel, on Spectravision.

Rayge asks: Dude you totally cracked me up in when I saw you in the Nutty Professor! What was your favorite movie you did so far?

LarryMiller says: Thank you! Dude! Honestly, my favorite movie is the next one I get. I love being on the set, and I love the chance to do something well. And, some parts have been larger, and some have been better than others, but I just love getting the next one.

WB Host says: Since you have done so many projects, are you constantly running into people (cast or crew) that you've worked with before? Is it like a reunion every time you book a new project?

LarryMiller says: Good question. This is surprisingly, in the end, not a big business. And yes, very often it's a nice reunion to see crew from one picture to the other. I just finished filming the movie I wrote and am the lead in with Tommy Davidson that should be out in the fall. Tentatively called "Pros and Cons" - and the reason I'm mentioning that now is because if the movie does well and if I get to write another one, and produce it, and be in it again, there's no question to me that Id use the same crew and maybe even the same cast because we had a fine time together working hard. And, it would be nice - like a family reunion.

WB Host says: What do you think the funniest TV show on today is?

LarryMiller says: I don't know.. everybody has different tastes. I think Just Shoot Me has a lot of good stuff. And then there are, I'm afraid I have to jump to Abbott & Costello reruns

guest71 asks: Larisa said once that you made up most of your character's funny lines in 10 things. What were some that you made up?

LarryMiller says: Yes, its true! For good or ill, over the movie roles I've done, people know thats what I can bring. That happened through Pretty Woman through Nutty professor and now 10 Things. The director was very open to that. The script was wonderful, but movies are collaborative, and again, that's part of what I can bring An example was the line when Larissa and her friend are trying to go to the party "It's just a party daddy" and I just said "And Hell is just a sauna." I threw it out in rehearsal and he said - there's another one - let's do it! Its getting to the point where good friends of mine and colleagues sometimes come up 6 months or a year after something comes out and will say "Was this or that line yours? it sounded like your rhythm!"

sprung48 asks: did you enjoy playing your character?

LarryMiller says: Well...

LarryMiller says: I loved playing that part. A lot of the writing was terrific in making him a little extreme if not outright pathological. I think I'll probably be a strict parent but don't see myself keeping a false pregnancy belly around the house.

Thrashface asks: What was it like working with some of the best teen actors out there on 10 Things?

LarryMiller says: This cast was terrific in every respect And I would dance with any of them anytime. Julia and Larissa were wonderful to play with as my daughters and David and Joey Gordon Levitt are just terrific funny fellows to hang with.

beckybrowneyes asks: Was it fun getting to work with Larissa and Joey G-L again on "3rd rock from the sun?"

LarryMiller says: absolutely! we had a lot of laughs. Speaking of a great cast. Those folks on 3rd Rock are like the 61 Yankess - every one is a hall of famer. And Lithgow is a constant perfect ating lesson to watch every day.

WB Host says: Are you the one who played all the jokes on the set? Be honest now!

LarryMiller says: Ill be honest - on sets I am not much of a jokester To me, that would be like a musician coming offstage and continuing to play his guitar on the toilet But I promise, if I ever decide to change my ways and become an exuberant prankster... on location... the first place I'm going to break the news is right here!

WB Host says: Well, thats just about all the time we have for tonight, I want to thank everybody for hanging with us throughout the technical difficulties! Thanks for joining us Larry!

LarryMiller says: Good luck to all, and until the next time... take care.

WB Host says: Be sure and check out the special presentation extra has set up for 10 Things I Hate About You at www.extratv.com and go see the movie!
